4 Simple Tips for Making It Out of an Escape Room

If you’re about to take on an escape room, you’ll need a few pointers for a successful outcome. First of all, escape rooms are meant to be challenging and exciting. The point is to have fun, so don’t overthink anything when you’re in the game room. That being said, be sure to make good use of your time and team to have the best experience possible. In this post, we’re sharing 4 tips to help you succeed in making it out of an escape room.

Here are some effective methods for escaping:

1.      Teamwork

Clearly, there’s no “I” in team, so choose the right team to ensure good collaboration and fun times. You won’t be able to solve the puzzles alone, meaning it’s wise to divide your group to thoroughly search the room and have teammates looking for different things to help you escape. Allow everyone to contribute their various strengths or strategies to the game – it is a group effort, after all. If everyone is working on something (e.g., watching the clock or inventorying items and clues), then you’re less likely to run out of time while improving your chance of solving the puzzle and escaping.

2.      Communicate and participate

Communicate with each other and participate to quickly find and pursue the right clues. You should call out your findings to others, ensuring that nobody wastes time on areas or objects that aren’t necessary for solving the puzzle (for instance, electric outlets and ceiling tiles). That’s where the game room rules come into play and it’s important to follow them, if you want to make it out in time. Sometimes, clues may be right in front of you – don’t overthink the game and do share observations to make solid connections, like a lock box and written code.

3.      Take advantage of hints

Most escape rooms have a 60-minute time limit. If you get stumped, take advantage of and work the clues that the puzzle master offers at the beginning of the game. That’s why they’re there and many groups need hints to solve certain puzzles. Don’t spend more than 5 minutes on a task – ask for a hint, or let someone else work on it and move on. This keeps things moving and lets your group progress to the next phase. Be sure to go through everything in the room, just in case there’s a hidden clue tucked away or behind something like a false shelf.

4.      Stay organized

The first step to staying organized is managing group size. You don’t want so many players that you’re tripping over each other in the room. A team of 4-6 people is typically a good place to start. The room is equipped with all the items and clues you need to make it out within the time limit. So, keep track of objects and puzzles you’ve already worked on and keep related items together, such as a lock and key, to avoid losing time or overlooking other things you need to escape.

Most importantly, have fun! Escape rooms are an immersive experience, so bring your crew and be ready for an exciting challenge. With these tips, you’re sure to have a great time and escape strategy!
